America

How perfect is the new coral and navy Aimee dress for your 4th of July celebrations? I will be celebrating the holiday in Washington D.C. with best friends from home. Looking forward to seeing fireworks at the monuments, drinking raspberry champagne, and reminiscing high school memories all while wearing my Aimee dress in the most patriotic city in the world. How are you spending the 4th of July? What will you be wearing?

Fashion Campus NYC at Parsons the New School for Design

A few weeks before I began my internship at EG, I received an email from Jordan suggesting I apply to a program called Fashion Campus NYC. I wasn’t sure what it was but it looked awesome, so I applied and Jordan and I were both accepted!

Here is a quick summary of what Fashion Campus NYC is all about:

“An initiative of the New York City Economic Development Corporation and Parsons The New School for Design, Fashion Campus NYC is intended to inspire talented students from around the world to pursue careers within the New York City fashion industry, with a focus on the business side of fashion. Summer 2012 is the second installment of Fashion Campus NYC.”

Jordan and I receiving our packets at the New School on Friday night (the first night of Fashion Campus).

Jordan and I with some other interns we met at the Friday social we attended. The social was held after the panel discussion. The social was really fun and had lots of free delicious food. My personal favorite was the chocolate covered strawberries and Jordan loved the mini crab cakes! It was an awesome experience to meet interns that were all living in NY for the summer!

Lunch on Saturday! So much yummy food!

On Saturday, Fashion Campus NYC ended with keynote speaker Chris Benz. Chris Benz is an American Fashion Designer and attended Parsons. How cool are his shoes?! He was super down to earth and was interactive with the audience.

Overall, the experience at Fashion Campus was incredibly valuable and Jordan and I learned more than we thought was possible in two short days! I encourage you to check out the Facebook page!

Another weekend in the big city! Each week we learn so much interning for Emma Graham it is easy to forget that there are even more things to learn out there in New York. This past week we had a successful sample sale here in the Emma Graham HQ; check out Caitlin’s blog post about our amazing night. It has been a little chilly here lately but Saturday could not have been more beautiful! I spent my morning running along the Westside Highway and the Hudson River.  Here is the view from one of the piers, looking back at the city.

Saturday night Jordan and I went to dinner in the Meatpacking District at Dos Caminos. We enjoyed margaritas and a great Mexican dinner, definitely worth a visit the next time you are in New York. The restaurant is three levels, and boasts a large area for outdoor seating: perfect for people watching.

Sunday morning was spent walking through Greenwich Village and checking out various thrift shops in the area; NYC is definitely a great place to find vintage shopping – you wouldn’t believe the pieces people donate! After wondering around Greenwich we took the subway up to The Metropolitan Museum of Art.  This place was incredible.  We found the Prada and Schiaparelli Exhibit immediately and spent over an hour just admiring the work of these two designers separated by time. The museum closes at 5:30 on Sundays so we only spent a couple of hours in the museum, but one could spend days here and not get bored. Stay posted on more intern adventures! We are in love with our company and this town!!
